Hi

l know you may not be a expert, but l am going through a nightmare with a tauren a the moment and it's pretty awful, l am hoping you can give me some sensible advice on taurus if you know off hand as its driving me crazy, bit long winded but give it your best shot.!
L meet a tauren in Dec 2007 and she declared to me she was into me in a big way, on the day l was leaving on my holiday, kinda freaked me but l felt the vibe pretty much anyway. Well after much deliberation l went back to visit her to see how l felt about the whole thing as it was so intense that l could not stop thinking of her, l am engaged and until that moment felt secure happy and it was the best holiday of my life until she harassed me for six whole weeks with text's messages and phone call of her love and passion to see me. Well all seems fine does it not until l tell you l am also female and have never thought of a woman this way or considered it , but the pull was so strong, anyway went back after a few solid drinks had the experience, and to be honest in the morning l was in a daze it was amazing and so different , for her she said she never had such an experience with any of the women or men she had slept with.
From there on for fourteen days we never left each others side while l stayed at the hotel were she worked, so much so it got a bit to much for me at the end. l had had her breaking down into a bag of tears and telling me not to leave and all sorts of drama , she even got drunk as not to face the pain of seeing me leave for the airport.
after my arrival home my fiance told me she text him to say she missed us and she never had a friend like me and how much she missed me HORROR! l thought oh God ! thats too intense,! to close to home ,so l returned two months later and she was a bit more cold towards me just before l arrived and it took a bit of warming up to her before we bonded again, but after much heart felt thought , l decided that l was falling in love and it was not the life l wanted or new l could gamble on.
l told her that l wanted to be friends , but she just went all cold and berserk ! on me and said l did not know how to treat her and wanted to know where l was going when l was there who with, and why and when l would get back if l went out shopping etc....
l eventually had enough and stopped her coming to my room and did not answer her call's for the rest of the day.went out with a client to party, and as a result she as totally blanked me still takes my calls but plays the role of someone who as been betrayed , accused me of spreading rumours of our relationship and so on....
l have since returned and all of the pretense, to fly out to see her as a friend and phone calls , every night while with my partner, she seemed to forget in a whisk . l have tried to reason with her ,while l talk with her but all l get is a blank cold look and no emotion , nothing like the intense connection we had . but my fiance was there a few days before me last month and she wanted to know if l was coming there, and she would wake him at one am in the morning asking if l was coming and so on. when l did arrive she just spoke to me once and sat in my room while my other half was there starring at me, with the odd sentence , all this after telling me three weeks prior ,that she hope she would never see me again.CONFUSED!...
the next seven days was followed with a assault of flirting with another girl in front of me , no contact while l was there alone and mixed messages of sit with me then not Talking.
l am so sorry this is so long and l hope the subject does not offend you all, but l have never experienced this before, but she as slept with women casually many times, but the impression l get is that she really fell hard for me, and hates me for making her feel this way, but now she will not let us just be friends although l sense she still likes me , on top of which a guest complained about her behavior in the toilets early this year, by email to the management, but she just seems to think it's all from me.
What can l do l have tried to build the bridges, she has gaven into me a little and let me in but very slowly with just the odd sign that she still liked me, but said it would take time, to make matters worse , she as a so called boyfriend who is twenty years older and he hated our friendship , as he could see how close we were, so he goes back and tells her anything to wreak the trust she had in me. because he loves her , but he his like a father figure , and she said she would never tell him she likes women, but l have, told him
to top it off he got all his friends involved to help wreak our friendship further by instilling suspicions in her mind about my loyalty to her.
l miss her so much! l want to stop how l feel , but cannot stop my heart! l try daily to focus on my life here, but l am in love l know it! Cancer by birth , l know my self so well.
l feel the begging is just making her dig in harder , and l don't know if she will ever warm to me again, its been 3.5 weeks now and l just made contact but put the phone dow after a couple times in hope she would reply, but with held my number, stupid l know ! do l only get one chance with a tauren,l also made her cry for hours before l left, because l could not stand the thought of her knowing l was so in love and she never gave me much back in return when l disclosed my heart further to her ? did or does she love me , or am l dreaming ,and she played me big time,.

again really sorry , but if you can get as much feed back will keep you posted.....LOL.

We had an amazing connection, especially when we went hiking in nature or cooked together. I want to write her a letter and be honest but suspect that this will just come across as desperate and drive her further away.

Is it hard for Taurus' to "move on" from romantic relationships?

I only ask because, well, my ex bf is a Taurus (Taurus sun, mer, mars, Aquarius moon, gemini venus and Asc) and after a horribly complicated ending, he has asked me to meet up with him for lunch or "chocolate milk and caramels" (creepy , I know). He's also emailed me numerous times throughout the breakup asking to be my freind, etc. So I've finally given in, as I am interested in having a conversation and seeing him (it's been 7 months). BUT This concernes me- as much as I love Taurus', and all that jazz, I need to know from you if maybe his heart is still in "the past"? I have moved on. That's why I agreed.

Do you as Taurus' believe in freindships after relationships?

But I have wanted to find a mate to finally settle down with, and it seems a nearly impossible task. I have a Venus in Aries, and I understand that influence on my chart, but I'm a venus baby via my sun sign, and everything ends up seeming so conflicted, and I never, ever get what I want romantically. Funny, I get what I want in every other area of life except the one that means the most to me.

Of you all, and of the other Taureans you know, how many live lives of perpetual singledom? Is it due to circumstances in our culture, just ill luck, or does my chart- which seems to favor short bursts of hypersexualism followed by breaking up- just show that I'm one of the odd ones who will never get to find someone special? Lately, I've been focusing on simplifying, leading me to just wanting a regular sex buddy, in order to bypass all the angst, but even that seems to be out of reach (because it's something I asked the universe for?)

What are your experiences with this, if any?

I play bass and sing for a small town cover band. It's an interesting experience, and full of conflict for me; I don't necessarily enjoy all the attention, but I love performing, if that makes any sense. Part of the Gemini ascendant thing with me I suppose, so many facets to everything. There's also a part of me that's into it because so many people over the years told me that I didn't have what it took to be in a band; the stubborn bull loves to prove them all wrong! :-)

May 20, 2008
Invaluable Openness
Taurus Daily Horoscope
You may be quick to take a defensive stance when dealing with others today, particularly when engaged in conversations with individuals you have only just met. A wariness that wells up within you can drive you to question whether others’ motives are pure, even when no one has given you any cause to be suspicious. You may be disposed to jump to conclusions before you have all the facts in front of you and, as a result, you may have difficulty relating to colleagues and acquaintances. Overcoming your doubts may be as simple as making a conscious effort to trust those individuals who have not exhibited any dishonest behaviors. Conversing, collaborating, and enjoying people’s company may be easier today when you are able to put your faith in others.

Though it is human nature to be suspicious of unfamiliar individuals, approaching new relationships with trust in your heart can help you establish an atmosphere of openness with your associates and peers. When we respond defensively to others because we fear that people may try to take advantage of us, we deprive ourselves of valuable opportunities to make new friends and create professional partnerships. Trusting people until they have given you a reason to deny them that faith allows you to work, live, and play side by side with a variety of individuals without having to speak guardedly or veil your thoughts. When you divest yourself of your unfounded suspicions and make an effort to trust people today, you’ll unguardedly and joyfully engage in interpersonal interactions.

I am new to the tribe :) so please bear with me - I am not sure how to find out what my cusp or what planet is in what sign so I figured I would google it to find out (because we folks are resourceful!). I couldn't find a simple way to put in my birthday and time of birth to have it figured out for me. Also, I am realizing after reading the posts there is more astrological influences than what I first thought being Taurus meant - absolutely fascinating!
I am hoping someone could give me a link to a web page where it will spell out what my rising moon, planet or sun is rising in, what cusp, etc. after a simple entry of information. Any and all help is appreciated!

This ongoing set of circumstances has been begging your attention for a long time, as certain long term stalemates come up for review and clearing. You may think that these different areas of your life are unrelated, but they are not. You are the common denominator and therefore the experiences you're having in each of these departments are all the expression of the way you feel about you. Fear has a way of blocking you from getting to the people or places you most want to connect with. There is only one answer: Love yourself more, and all barriers will melt away.

He is very closed about his emotions, will tell me he loves me but does not elaborate. Straight to the point I guess.

My biggest concern is he seems to lie about little things, things he thinks I might get upset about I'm guessing. He even will lie about something that happened in his past before he met me, like he isn't sure how I'm going to react, so tells me what he thinks I want to hear. I want to hear the truth and when I found out from a mutual friend what the truth was, I was upset, not because of the info, but because he chose to not be truthful about it. I can't say anything to him as this friend has sworn me to secrecy.

Anyway, is this normal of Taurus people? Any suggestions on what I can do to help him realize he doesn't have to lie? Oh, and what is this about being a commitmentphobe? He won't talk about marriage and when I finally get him to, he tells me 5-10 years ... we just had a baby 2 months ago ... why can't he commit?

Any insight would be appreciated. I really want this to work. It's the best relationship I've ever been in, we clicked like I've never experienced before and I know Caps and Taurus are very, very good together. And more importantly, we have the little one that needs her parents to be together!

He last relationship ended in a bad way, and I think she's unwilling to trust/commit to anything she doesn't feel absolutely sure about. She just says she's confused and not sure of what she wants (from what I understand, that's kind of a Piscean trait, and one I'm guessing a Taurus might find, hmmm, troubling...makes them insecure...like poking a bull from behind...anyways). I read all about how Taurus and Pisces can be a good combination, but you have to be careful about certain emotional aspects, and I think I've been messing that up lately.

I feel like she doesn't trust me, and whenever I have these bouts where I bring my doubts to her (she doesn't like confronting problems, I see it as vital...another clash of our signs it seems), she also asks me why this has come up, further asking if I've been talking to my "girlfriends" (female friends). Anyone have any insight on this? I love her dearly and I'm willing to take this to the end of the earth if need be, but I'm frustrated too (we both are actually).

I think Taurus is ruled by Earth.. just think of the cow sitting in the grass, and the breeze blowing in its face, and the way it can just sit for long periods of time and enjoy its surroundings with effortless pleasure... I think this is Taurus.. and to me, it's epitomized in the way Nature is.

Nature on Earth is like Taurus - the rolling hills, the swaying trees, the green green grass, bushery, and woods and pastures and mountain ranges and all the rest - silent, still, abundant, fertile, giving, powerful but in a subdued way.

I think that Taurus is one of the most misunderstood signs - as I feel like astrology sees to much "money" and "possession" and a obsession for "things" in it.. I believe Taurus is more about security, stability, comfort, care, and most importantly - RELAXING...

If you know any healthy Taurus, one thing they know how to make their loved ones feel best - is to be relax, enjoy simple pleasures, slow down, and sink a little deeper into themselves. there is too much emphasis as Taurus coming off as "boring" or simplistic - but inside, Taureans abhor boredom and would never allow themselves to feel this way - when they master the true Taurean lesson, they just know how to enjoy their surroundings, appreciate their environment, take true gratification in their lot in life and spread the satisfaction and internal calm to others.

I admit that some of these traits sound "Venusian" but we have to remember that Earth is Venus's sister planet - of the same size, and much closer in distance than to Mars (which is also much smaller)... expect Venus is really Libra's domain... I have my Mercury in Libra so I've reflected on these things too.

I tend to attract Libras as well, as my South Node is there, so I feel like I understand Libra well - Libra is a social sign, and your Venus reflects how you act among your group of peers. Negative traits of Libra involve being overly concerned with appearances and possibly very vain.. Positive traits of Libra include knowing how to deal with people, make friends, be a wonderful partner, be a lover, be in a equal and loving relationship. Also - to add to my argument - if you examine Ascendants of individuals - People with a Venus near the Asc or a Libra Asc will have a similar look - and often be very beautiful. Individuals with a Taurus Asc have a very different look - they often have larger necks, a more robust frame, and have the innocent, youthful "adolescent" look.

so that's how i feel. :)

1. Virgo: intellectual and great conversationalist w/o being "know-it-all" or arrogant about it (Leos I'm talking to you!) I'll admit the bachelor/bachelorette reputation they have worries me though
2. Taurus: like connects to like and nothing is better than another Taurus with me, but two bulls in the same room on a bad day can be chaos!
3. Capricorn: I actually like their serious nature and work ethic (they can be great lovers also). But for no reason, they pull arguments out of the air just to prove a point (mom is a Cap and we knock heads often). Not to mention OLD arguments from the 1990s!

Bound to raise some hackles or horns as the case may be. This was sent to me by a friend and I claim NO responsibility. Lets just say this is all the negative aspects of the zodiac.

Bastards of the Zodiac

ARIES
Boy does he yearn for the times when men were men and
women were grateful.

English is his second language, grunting is his first.
And all he can grunt about is himself, his career, his
sporting achievements and how feminists would be a lot
less uptight if he gave them a good shag. If the
bastard you fancy puts on Vivaldi in the evening,
whips up a nice little souffle a deux and then settles
down to read Jane Austen to you, he's almost certainly
gay and he's definitely not Aries.

TAURUS
A typically stubborn Taurean male always knows better
than a female. Even when he doesn't.

As the zodiac's number one control freak, Taurus knows
what's good for you. Even though he patently isn't.
Paradoxically, when he's not running - and therefore
ruining - your life, the Taurean bastard is busy being
chronically lazy. His sloth-like ways do not bode well
for what we will generously describe as your
'sex-life'
with him. If you find yourself with a Taurus our only
advice here is to make the most of your rapidly
deteriorating mental health by raving like a maniac.
That means he'll be forced to stop doing likewise and
be helpful for once by rushing round trying to find
you a good psychiatrist.

GEMINI
Gemini bastards are completely and utterly mad.

A Gemini bastard has many demons - a multitude of
personalities living inside him, each of whom
qualifies as a bastard in his own right. Because
Gemini lives amid this turmoil he will continually
change his ideas and opinions. What he says today
won't mean anything tomorrow and it probably didn't
mean much today either. You could see this as a
natural result of him having to deal with his
conflicting personalities. Or you could see this as a
result of him being a two-faced, two-timing, lying
bastard.

CANCER
Used to sneak his mother's Barbara Cartland novels
when normal boys were shoplifting Hustler.

Any boy should have the decency to look visibly
embarrassed when Mummy combs his hair and wipes his
face with a hanky laced with her own spit. When he's
thirty-eight. However we're not talking about a grown
man here, are we? We're talking about Cancer. It
doesn't actually matter whether you are compatible
with a Cancer bastard. Getting on with him isn't half
as important as getting on with the woman who reared
him. After all, she's the one responsible for making
him the fine figure of a man that he is definitely not
today.

LEO
A complete bloody nightmare.

His entrance will always be preceded with a drum roll.
If you miss his entrance you'll find him already
strategically positioned under a spotlight. You can't
miss him there - not with the two game show hostesses
on either side of him pointing him out. You might also
notice The Hand Of God above his head scrawling a
cloudy message in the air: women of the world, my gift
to you. Regards, God. Do the deed on the third date.
You'll need to do something to avoid hearing his life
story again and sex will shut him up nicely.

VIRGO
If you're looking for a man that no other woman will
ever want to steal, you've finally found him.

Ever wondered what goes on in the mind of a serial
killer? Find out what Interpol has been trying to
discover for years and date a Virgo bastard. If you
are currently in love with a Virgo and you don't want
to believe the truth, pick up any detective novel that
features an ice-pick-wielding nutter and then try
telling us he doesn't remind you of someone you know
and it's all just a bunch of coincidences. If he looks
vaguely familiar, that's because he is. You probably
saw an artist's sketchy impression on Crimewatch the
night before and faintly remember words like
'bludgeoned', 'manhunt' and 'Virgo'.

LIBRA
Life is getting more complex. The half-flush or the
full-flush? The stress is unbelievable.

Charmingly boyish, well-dressed - with the nicely
blow-dried hair and a vacant look on his face. Not
much more than a large Ken doll with movable limbs,
he's only appealing to women still under the age of
eight. Anyone older will see that he is plastic and
empty, with a preference for unrealistically
proportioned women. Because he is completely shallow,
he lacks the depth required to make a decision or a
commitment. The Libra bastard will never make either.

SCORPIO
A sneaky, nasty, controlling bastard, a master
manipulator and a world-class pervert.

Any relationship of any length with a Scorpio bastard
is guaranteed to wreck your emotional health, your
self-esteem or, at the very least, your enjoyment of
life. Scorpio makes Darth Vader look like Mr Whippy.
He'll hold a grudge against you until the day you die.
Say you flirt harmlessly with a work colleague of his
at the office Christmas party. It won't cross your
mind that Scorpio is upset about it until one fine day
three years later when he retaliates by sleeping with
your maid of honour and your sister just hours before
he marries you.

SAGITTARIUS
Past philosophers used a comforting tool: 'I think,
therefore I am not Sagittarius'.

Sagittarius does everything back to front. He speaks
before he thinks, leaps before he looks and loves you
only after you have left him. Which is why when people
say Sagittarius is a lucky bastard, they're dead
right. the fact you haven't murdered him yet is a
miracle. Blessed with the smarts of a particularly
backward brontosaurus and the sort of sexual appetite
that even Caligula would deem excessive, the
Sagittarian bastard is compatible with very few women.
Not because he's fussy - he's not. It's just that most
women prefer a man who thinks with his brain.

CAPRICORN
The heart of a loan shark, the humour of an undertaker
and the sensitivity of a tax auditor.

Capricorn takes everything seriously. He is
hard-working and ambitious. He wants to get married
and raise a family. He has no problem with the concept
and implementation of commitment. He'll even be
faithful to you - although this can't be guaranteed as
he is a man. But there is a catch. Before whisking you
off into the sunset, he has to check your credit
rating. And no, he's not joking. He never jokes about
money, or anything else come to think of it.

AQUARIUS
He seems like any normal bloke. Don't be fooled, the
Aquarius is about as 'normal' as a pig with wings.

Aquarius is the most reasonable bastard you'll ever
encounter. In his mind every viewpoint gets a hearing,
every belief system has some legitimacy. This, in
turn, could lead you to think he is actually more
morally superior and ethically sound than the rest of
his male peers. Don't be fooled. It makes him
different from the other eleven bastards, not better.
Look in the little rubber boats that chase Japanese
whaling ships or leaky oil tankers; there'll be at
least one half-drowned Aquarius on board. Find him
attractive and he'll be completely oblivious to your
existence. Ignore him and he'll be all over you.

PISCES
Quite simply Pisces is a pathological liar.

Because he's at the arse-end of the zodiac, Pisces is
often referred to as the astrological 'rubbish tip'.
What this means is he has a little bit of all bastards
in him, which therefore makes him a bastard twelve
times over. This in turn means he's obliged to tell
massive fibs so you won't find out the awful truth.
Obviously, the quicker off the mark you are, the
sooner you'll spot the yawning chasm between fact and
fiction and faster you can drop him. Because to be
honest, once the thrill of catching him out wears off,
you'll begin to resent being a full-time lie detector
on legs.

Taurus: A Holistic View

by Moses Siregar III
Copyright 2000-Today. All Rights Reserved

This article originally appeared in The Mountain Astrologer, Oct/Nov 2001.

In the name of the One.

I offer the following meditation; for the fullest experience, you might read slowly, pausing after each sentence:

Imagine you are a cow in a field on a spring day. You feel the wind blowing across you. You hear the clear sound of birds chirping. You see colorful flowers all around. You smell the fragrant grass. You are simply being. Time does not exist. You are totally present, and are at home on the earth. Your mind is quiet and there is nothing to be done. You are fully at rest, yet fully alert. There is just the ordinary miracle of existence. You allow yourself to let go, relax, and accept life just as it is. Thus you uncover peace.

The astrological community is familiar with the material aspects of Taurus and the 2nd House (the two are naturally connected in astrology, so when I refer to Taurus I will also be referring to the 2nd House). The material purpose of Taurus is to be materially comfortable and secure, and to enjoy the physical world (including art and music).

There is also a crucially important spiritual dimension to the sign Taurus and the 2nd House. The complementary spiritual purpose of Taurus is to be present here and now, and to know the peace in realizing that you already have it all. Both dimensions of Taurus are vitally important. If we define Taurus only by its material dimension, we leave the sign fully dependent on external stimulation for its happiness, thereby creating a Hindu or Buddhist nightmare: an endless cycle of craving.

It is only because we live in a predominantly confused, wounded, and materialistic world that we think Taurus is mainly about money, possessions, and sensual indulgences. But Taurus is also a powerful symbol for enlightenment, and as we begin to wake up, it becomes more important to see Taurus and the 2nd House as referring to the potential for the truest inner peace, and therefore as well as to the obstacles to this real freedom.

Material and sensual compulsions are not the true nature of anyone. Addictive cravings come from an inner self that feels incomplete and unloved. The immoderate, materialistic aspect of Taurus is a just potential of Taurus when Taurus is in a wounded condition. Taurus is actually about an inner feeling of wholeness that reaches for nothing external to feel better. In its deepest truth, Taurus is about Being, not having or craving. Remember the cow? She doesn't need to do anything. She doesn't need to have anything. She doesn't need anything. She isn't drawn to thinking or believing anything. She is resting in pure existence, and experiencing a peace that is always present. The cow is the most still and contented animal associated with the astrological signs. I know many, many people with prominent Taurus and 2nd House placements who exemplify this enlightened quality. It is critical that modern astrology point to the conscious, higher possibility of Taurus and the 2nd House. Otherwise we support and promote ignorance.

Luckily, the material and spiritual facets of Taurus do not conflict--they naturally support one another. By establishing material and financial security, one can more easily relax and be present to the beauty of life. And by healing oneself through being present to oneself (and others), one can enjoy material possessions and sensual pleasures without a quality of grasping and clinging.

One of the best ways to recognize the spiritual dimension of Taurus is to look at the relationship between Taurus and its opposite sign, Scorpio. Opposite zodiac signs might seem totally different, because on a superficial level they are, but at their center, polar signs have the same core. I call Taurus/Scorpio the Axis of "True Being." Technically, Taurus and Scorpio are feminine and fixed signs. One way to describe the purpose of this axis, then, is to go within (feminine) with determination and persistence (fixed), as deeply as one can go. Taurus and Scorpio can be about cutting out the distractions, and "just being" with ourselves and others; when we do this for ourselves we often discover aspects of ourselves that have been hidden, and which need our healing awareness.

One purpose of both Taurus and Scorpio, then, is to meet all aspects of oneself completely and compassionately, like a sitting bull (See note 1, below). A mutual shadow of Taurus and Scorpio (and therefore all of us, since the twelve signs are within us all) is the desire to run away from our deepest emotions by seeking to control things external to us, or to distract ourselves with various addictions. The 2nd House in Vedic astrology, for example, can actually be associated with food and drug addictions. In addition to food, drink, and drug addictions, we also have addictions to spending money, making money, doing, TV, movies, computers, the internet, information, thinking, thrill-seeking, traveling, fame, external validation, romantic relationships, friendships, and sex. None of these things are bad; it is compulsively seeking these things, which distracts us from our deeper selves, which is bad. Taurus and Scorpio face the need to be with, in other words to love, all of oneself so that one can be loving and present for others.

Just as the axis of Virgo and Pisces, is a mystical and universal axis, the axis of Taurus and Scorpio is the other deep and esoteric axis. How could the sign opposite Scorpio, which is ruled by Pluto, not have a deep and esoteric element to it? Until Taurus is seen as a fundamentally "spiritual" sign, the axis of Taurus and Scorpio will not be fully understood; it's not just "sex and money". Virgo/Pisces (6/12) and Taurus/Scorpio (2/8) are the two most complex, difficult, and transformative axes. Each of these four transformative signs has a planetary co-ruler of unique spiritual power. Scorpio has Pluto. Pisces has Neptune. Virgo has Chiron. Taurus has Earth.

Taurus is, at least symbolically, co-ruled by the Earth, in addition to its traditional and well-known ruler Venus. The overwhelming spiritual power of the Earth might be overlooked because you can't find the Earth out there or directly observe its movements over time since you are the Earth and (unless you're an astronaut) the Earth is always Here and Now. The Earth is closer than most of us think, because our bodies are (unless you're an astronaut) indivisible pieces of the Earth. And like the enlightened mind, the Earth is eternally present, though often overlooked. The Earth, as the higher-octave ruler of Taurus (until a newer planet is integrated in our knowledge, which may happen with the recent discovery of a 'Plutino' about one fourth the size of Pluto. See note 2) has been so close that most astrologers have overlooked its significance all along. As Ken Wilber and the non-dualistic spiritual traditions suggest, we can end the great search, because the prize is always and already present. See the note at the end of this article for a discussion of each Sun/Earth sign combination.

That which integrates the material and spiritual dimension of Taurus is something else that has always been so present, yet also so frequently ignored: awareness of the body. The body enjoys sensual pleasures, and inhabiting the body is the only way to Be. One can only be present and mentally quiet to the degree that one inhabits the body. Most of us dwell primarily in our minds, which is why we are collectively insane. Because our society does not emphasize meditation or body awareness, most of us do not know that restless, busy thinking is the very soil of suffering. All healing approaches that encourage presence in the body help us to move from mental insanity to consciousness, and into healing, loving presence. The current collective trend of spiritual understanding appears to be about, not transcendence or ascension, but embodiment or descension.

Taurus has very strong connections to the spiritual approaches which characterize the East (or any spirituality that encourages simplicity, silence, naturalness, and being peace), and to the enlightenment to which these traditions point. Think of the silence of Zen and Buddhism. Isn't Taurus one of the few signs that has the patience to "Just Sit?" I have also heard that the Buddha was born, became Enlightened, and also died during the month of May. And what sign is most like Winnie the Pooh, the American poster bear of Taoism? Certainly Taurus, with its full-bellied innocence and simplicity. The most famous Taoist virtue is Wu Wei, usually translated as "non-action." Does non-action sound like an astrological sign that we know? And all of this talk about resting into reality certainly sounds like Advaita Vedanta (high-tech Hinduism).

A further illustration of the connection between the Taurus/Scorpio axis and Eastern wisdom comes in with the role of 'emptiness.' In Buddhism, for example, Ultimate Reality is not 'God,' or any word that denotes a thing. Instead it is no-thing, or shunyata, meaning nothingness, emptiness, transparency, void, or spaciousness. Emptiness is also very highly valued in Taoism. Well, Taurus and Scorpio are the two most inherently silent signs (only Virgo comes close), and silence is just another facet of nothingness. A vipassana, or Buddhist meditation, retreat is a good illustration of the value of emptiness. At such a retreat, there is no T.V., no internet, no talking, little interpersonal interaction, no sex, no alcohol/drugs, no emotionally satisfying food--basically nothing. Such a retreat involves a lot of sitting and--most importantly--meeting oneself, one's mind and one's emotions, because one has eliminated all the distractions. The silence of Taurus and Scorpio (and Virgo and Pisces) helps reveal that their spiritual dimension involves a process of emptying through non-activity and wakefulness. In such cultivation, we can compassionately witness and inquire into any thoughts, emotions, and cravings.

One of the reasons why we have been unable to see the spiritual reality of Taurus is because of the religious stupidity that characterized the Piscean Age (approximately the last 2000 years), an age in which we have fashioned the Piscean ethic of always putting others first, even to the detriment of ourselves, and have stressed the spirit over the flesh; and created an all-pervasive concept of a real duality between matter and spirit. This religious residue has left us with guilt for being in a body, and a desire to escape the body for more lofty realms. We are just beginning to wake up and see how dangerous and unspiritual this negativity toward the body is. In this article, i refer to the 'material' and 'spiritual,' not to further any kind of split or war between the two, but to refer to aspects of life which are different but not separate. It is helpful to remember that these terms are complements which form a unity, and are not actually distinct and separate from one another at all. Perhaps because the man-made divide between body and soul has not yet been largely bridged, Taurus is generally seen as 100% material and 0% spiritual. The reality is 50% and 50%. We have not yet been ready to perceive an astrological sign which is a unified blend of materiality and spirituality, because we ourselves have not been living this truth.

In fact, Taurus is precisely the first and most significant sign that represents the unity of spirit and matter, inner peace and outer fullness, resting in the present moment and being active in the physical world, loving others yet taking care of ourselves first, valuing the ideal of peace but remaining grounded in practical reality. With our modern psyche so fundamentally divided, of course we have been blind to see Taurus as it really is, a union of heaven and earth. But in this Age of Aquarius, we have the opportunity to take advantage of a higher logic, one which accepts rather than rejects apparent contradiction, and unites the opposites that our rational logic has told us were irreconcilable. This is the Age of Both, no longer the age of Either/Or. If we do not recognize that Taurus is the greatest astrological symbol of the union of the sacred and the secular, then our astrology also is preserving a dangerous split between the two.

What has the word 'spiritual' meant to us? Think of the signs which we have traditionally thought of as spiritual. Take Sagittarius, with its potential for thinking that others ought to believe in and practice the same things as oneself; this 'spiritual' archetype has created immense judgment of those of different lifestyles, and countless suffering in the form of religious wars. Take Pisces, with its potential propensity for martyrdom, lack of personal boundaries, and self-sacrifice; this 'spiritual' archetype has resulted in enormous guilt, widespread dysfunctions in relationships and families, poor self-esteem, and a distorted notion of what real love is. Are we ready to accept that it is spiritual to be grounded, physical, and respectful of the earth? Are we ready to accept that it is spiritual to be fully present to others, but to take care of ourselves first, and to insist on a life that is true to our own hearts' desires? Are we ready to accept that it is spiritual to enjoy the physical realm with all of our senses and with all of our sexuality? Are we ready to accept that it is spiritual to appreciate a simple life, uncluttered with endless desires? If we are ready to accept such a notion of spirituality, then we are ready to undo our conditioning and recognize Taurus as a fundamentally spiritual sign.

Taurus is about a holistic self-sufficiency that applies to all levels of a human being, including the material, bodily, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. Material self-sufficiency is being able to support oneself financially. Bodily self-sufficiency is knowing how to care for and heal one's body as much as possible by oneself, and through a healthy lifestyle. Emotional self-sufficiency is self-love, instead of leaning too much on others. Mental self-sufficiency is not being overly dependent on others for knowledge. And spiritual self-sufficiency is deriving our peace and happiness from within, not from without.

With the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction and planetary stellium of May 2000 having occurred in Taurus, i think it is now the time for this holistic self-sufficiency. I believe the deeper Truth that Taurus points towards is our key to the possibility of a New (or Now) Age. It's fitting that the planetary lineup in Taurus was the most significant astrological event of the first year of the new millennium.

Taurus is potentially an amazing and powerful conjunction of opposites. The paradox of Taurus is that it embodies the full enjoyment of the physical and sensual realms, as well as an inner freedom that is not dependent on external gratification. The fact that these two aspects of Taurus seem to exclude one another is what makes Taurus so fascinating. The full realization of Taurus can be described as what Osho considered to be the whole person: Zorba the Buddha. Zorba is fully alive to the passions of physical existence, and the Buddha is fully awakened, possessing "inexhaustible [re]sources, available...from the cosmos itself." Combining these opposites within us is the wonderful opportunity of a lifetime. And such a freedom can only be realized through the gentle patience of Taurus.

A wonderful book which is becoming very popular is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, and it is fitting that such a body-oriented, present-oriented spiritual teaching is gaining such popularity around the time of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Taurus. The spiritual teaching (Jupiter) which is based on grounded reality (Saturn) is that we can all calm our minds, enter our bodies, and discover the liberation of the present (Taurus).

Interpreting the Earth in astrology

When we look from a heliocentric, or Sun-centered perspective, we find that our Earth placement is exactly 180 degrees opposite our Sun placement. For example, someone with the Sun at 20 Scorpio would have the Earth at 20 Taurus. The best way I know to work with the Earth as an astrological influence is to recognize that when we become totally present to ourselves and our bodies, and thereby contact the enlightened nature that we really are (which is what the Earth and Taurus is about), we access the qualities of our Earth sign. This allows us to moderate and balance our Sun sign excesses, and come from a deeper place within us. In this sense, our Earth/Sun relationship is like the North Node/South Node relationship, but on a totally inward level. The Earth shows what we are here to discover within ourselves, our own enlightened nature (Earth) beneath ego (Sun). Including this perspective in chart analysis adds a clear and important spiritual direction to an individual's chart.

When the Sun in Aries is really at peace with itself, it can be more objective, and more balanced in its relationships (Earth in Libra). When the Sun in Taurus really contacts itself, it can be more intimate and more deeply involved with others (Earth in Scorpio). When the Sun in Gemini knows its innermost, it can be more interested in natural simplicity and spiritual realization (Earth in Sagittarius). When the Sun in Cancer contacts its deepest self, it can be more self-sufficient and financially responsible (Earth in Capricorn). When the Sun in Leo knows its own core, it can be less concerned with others' approval and more truly altruistic (Earth in Aquarius). When the Sun in Virgo contacts its inner self, it can be more in touch with its feelings, and more relaxed with its self-imposed standards (Earth in Pisces).

When the Sun in Libra knows itself deeply, it can be more quick to release its irritation, and can communicate more directly (Earth in Aries). When the Sun in Scorpio relates to its own core, it can be more deeply at peace and content within itself (Earth in Taurus). When the Sun in Sagittarius finds its innermost, it can be more practical in integrating its passions into a practical livelihood, and be less rigid about its own convictions (Earth in Gemini). When the Sun in Capricorn finds its deepest self, it can allow itself to receive love and share its deepest emotions (Earth in Cancer). When the Sun in Aquarius is honest with its own heart, it can be more warm in its relationships, and more compassionate in translating its wisdom for others (Earth in Leo). When the Sun in Pisces finds its deepest nature, it can be more moderate with its emotions, and more caring towards its body (Earth in Virgo).

Some Astrological Examples of this Approach to Taurus

Mars in Taurus or the 2nd House: Mars can represent intense desire, sexual or otherwise. Thus its connection with letter 2 can represent various intense desires which block a resting into one's deepest peace. This compulsive nature can result in a greater awareness of the need to simplify and go within.

Jupiter in Taurus or the 2nd House: Jupiter's main problem is always "too much of a good thing." So these are, in a way, some of the most dangerous placements for Jupiter, as Jupiter's tendency towards excess can find quite full expression here. Through moderation, though, all of the beautiful elements of Taurus can find fulfillment.

Saturn in Taurus or the 2nd House: Saturn, which represents, on one level, our deepest-seated sense of inadequacy, here shows a fundamental lack of self-love that tends to manifest in various compulsive, addictive, and materialistic behaviors. Simplifying, sobriety, and deep self-inquiry are initially difficult for this person, but total dedication to these virtues is possible and necessary for this individual to realize peace.

Uranus in Taurus or the 2nd House: This shows a spiritual intention of the soul or inner self to powerfully realize a holistic self-sufficiency, body awareness, and inner peace; this is also known as enlightenment. There is an unconscious motivation or inner guidance towards developing this real awareness, and obstructions to its development will be dealt with. Some people might 'sleep through' this placement to some extent, not tapping into its higher potential.

Neptune in the 2nd House: The clear danger is the intensification of many forms of addiction, including relationship drama and dependence, that would block the ability to be aware of one's deepest nature. The clear potential is enlightenment, but of course achieving clarity through real sobriety must come first.

Pluto in the 2nd House: One of the deepest motivations of this soul is to actualize a deeply integrated sense of self and self-worth, and thus true inner peace. It is important for this person to learn to relate deeply and intimately with others, but it is more important for this person to learn to relate deeply and intimately with him or herself.

(Note 1, from above):
This is a quote from the late Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Chogyam Trungpa:
" Another way to put it is to say that compassion is the earthy quality of meditation practice, the feeling of earth and solidity. The message of compassionate warmth is to not be hasty and to [just] relate to each situation as it is. The American Indian name "Sitting Bull" seems to be a perfect example of this. "Sitting Bull" is very solid and organic. You are really definitely present, resting."

I think its all about balance. natal charts are so complex, but each person on earth balances out the other perfectly; for every person with sun in leo theres a person with sun in aquarius .... and so forth (except way more in depth, considering how many signs we each have.) everything evens itself out - its balanced. i mean, can you even imagine a world that was overwhelmed with geminis??? i think it would probably explode if not for the more level-headed signs ... hahaha (no offense to geminis, my moon is in gemini and it makes me a little crazy)

as for planet position controlling how my day might be, which ive always wondered about how it made sense, I think because the planets are such large entities and they are orbiting our earth, it makes complete sense that if venus was in retrograde (for example) the energy its orbiting motion makes from passing by the earth would, yeah ... probably affect us a lot...

sorry in advance if this has already been talked about, BUT ... what is everyone's thoughts on this?

2007 is a year of empowerment for Taureans. Jupiter and Vesto join Pluto fot its last full year in your house of transformation. Since 1995 you have been impelled to visit the mysterious, often frightening and painful secrets of your psychological inheritance, especially concerning sex, money and power. Now Jupiter's expansive energy can help you release any last associated vestiges of shame and inhibition. Until September, Saturn continues to push buttons linked to your home and ancestral past, so use anything that comes up to do final cleansing and letting go. You are supported by your patroness goddess of love Venus, who helps lift your feelings onto a higher dimension of compassionate understanding.

During the second half of the year mother goddess Ceres is in Taurus, providing an abundance of nurturing experiences. If you are considering getting some therapeutic help in the process of healing, go for it this year. January and July are especially good times. As you transform the patterns surrounding your most intimate relationships you are simultaneously refining your leadership abilities and visions for work in the larger community. Open yourself to a new view of what is possible, embracing the huge potential inherent in the energy which was previously buried and now available to you. And don't forget your friends and the exciting new people you are meeting. Working together greatly expands your overall creativity.

The main reason I thought about this is that a friend of mine is a "Super Taurus" and all he ever talks about is food (amazing how he never gains an ounce, of course!) And we all know how much Bulls love to eat. I just thought it was a funny coincidence....

What other affects might this have on someone? in general even, for all signs...
