Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Sun, February 15, 2009 - 11:56 PMI'm not a typical Taurus... I don't care much for materialistic things or people. I hate shopping and don't like to wear jewelry. I feel more "spiritual". I'm not very loyal unless the person really deserves it or I feel that way towards them. It is not a given with me.
I want to be faithful and am when in love. But it can be a struggle.
But I do have many Taurus traits as well! -

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Wed, March 4, 2009 - 1:51 AMomg i know what you mean!! i have a taurus stellium actually, consisting of my sun merc venus and mars.
now for the negating aspects ...
sun conjunct shiron
the entire stellium is in the 11th/aquarian/uranian house
the stellium, particularly venus (chart ruler) is opposed uranus
12th house gemini moon
south node in aquarius
...i am very spiritual and kind of hippy-ish, am a workaholic but not concerned with owning and possessing a lot of stuff, just want security ...i tend to blow money actually on things like fast food and video games and astrology programs and books. i really have a major distaste for materialism. -

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Thu, March 5, 2009 - 5:10 AMi just posted about my western chart calculating me as a triple gemini, in eastern a taurus, so my question for all of you:
have you seen your eastern or sidereal chart? possible that you could be an aries.
i think taurus`s desire for material things and posession and security, can manifest in some people, but not necessarily. when one is grounded and feels secure with oneself and finds other ways to satisfy needs, it doesnt have to be materialistic. i think taurus can express itself with very basic things and a basic life, but with comfort and satisfaction in the simple things, appreciation for what one already has, without the consumer attitude. but thats someone whos developed, or learned early in life what these things truly stand for.
i can blow lots of money, if i have it, on luxury items, and i still appreciate good quality things, however i can and have lived very simply, hardly ever making a shopping trip just a few times a year if that, and being able to survive XD -

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Thu, March 5, 2009 - 12:54 PMI agree, I think two points I could make is my philosophy: the key to life is everything in moderation. Any sign can take traits and influences too far, too often, it just happens to be that the Taurus love of material things is easy to notice and even easier to spot when one becomes materialistic.
The other point is, using my chart for example, looking for counteracting forces like my Neptune Rising. I think that is such an influence over me that it is one of the things that prevented me from becoming materialistic and obsessing over possessions being a double Taurus (Sun and Moon).
I have looked at my sidereal chart and it doesn't fit as accurately as my Western chart. I think tropical works for some while sidereal works for others. If we could find out why one works for some and not others, we'd be in the history books! :D Maybe something to look into? Being such a strong Gemini Ascendant T??? I bet you could find correlations between people who fit their sidereal charts more than tropical and vice versa!

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Fri, March 6, 2009 - 11:43 AMWell, none of those things are really un-taurusey. A lot of popastrologists get it wrong. It's more about earthiness, sensuality, touch...and rocks.
Typically, there are two types of Taurean women: 1) very social, engaging, dressed to the nines, loves being a girl or 2) very earthy, hippy, earth goddessy.
You can crave security without it being about money. -

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Sat, March 7, 2009 - 8:12 PMi have a tendancy to blow lots of money on lavish items when i have the money as well... but if i dont have the money i can completely adapt to not spending a dime unless necessary. i am social but only with people i feel comfortable with. Really talkative people like geminis actually turn me off. I love love love being a girl..i love to shop, go to the spa, pamper myself, and be sexy... but i do not feel the need to get glamed up everyday..i barely wear makeup and i am fine with going out in sweat pants. i can totally be one of the guys and sometimes id rather be. but maybe thats just my aries moon talking? but i still see myself as very taurus! and i do love security and i hate change! -

I feel so compelled to comment on this entire posting. I do not buy into astrology and the reason being is that Taurus is always clumped into the category of boring, unadaptable, stubborn, homebody's and the like. I am ANYTHING but that. I am a super extrovert, talkative (sometimes too much) I get antsy being at home I love going out, I seek out new and unique experiences, music, film, etc. I actually love change and incite it when things start to become mundane, i am easily bored and very adaptable. I am supeer spontaneous and have to often not give into my whims of just taking off somewhere at a moments notice -which I have been known to do. I suck at my finances and could care less about material items except I do have a penchant for clothes -but don't most girls? I am considerd the most adventurous and daring of most of my friends who are mostly an assortment of fire and air signs. I could go on and I just wonder where are all these so called "typical Taurus" and maybe we all fit into a category because we are conditioned to do so?
anyways -guess I will get off of my soapbox now. -

Re: Not So Taurus Tauruses
Wed, November 11, 2009 - 4:41 PMi have a place i go to get my tarot read on a bi-annual/quarterly basis. so last week, i sit down to chat with my reader and one of the first things to come out of his mouth is – “i’m getting a very (intellectual) impression from you? what sign are you?” “Taurus (of course).” “oh. i’m sensing more Gemini.” “really??”…
turns out that i am a mercury in Gemini w/ an air grand trine, so that could’ve thrown him. my understanding is that sun signs deal with the solar (-duh ;) and by nature the solar aspect of our personality is about ego formation. the core of one’s ego may or may not be evident to the outsider looking in, or even to the insider sometimes. ego’s are not fixed in stone, can change, can inflate or deflate, etc. etc. unless a person is really Self-centred/self-realized. for the rest of us mere mortals, the sun sign represents more what we WILL BE/are becoming/aspire towards than a set of fixed traits defining who we are. moon signs are a better indication of what we are like by nature.
in myth, the “solar” heroes usually go on a long quests or journeys to acquire some desired treasure or accomplish some desired end, but along the way discover themselves in a fuller sense. the stories usually revolve around the fateful decisions these heroes make at crucial moments in life – turning points in the plot of the story. so maybe, my Taurus sun sign indicates the style in which i make crucial decisions that affect my life (destiny). what resources do i bring to the table when it is a matter of what i WILL or will not do?
lastly, i wanted to second the rejection of pop astrology’s take on Taurus as the sign of literal-minded, “i only believe in what is staring me right in the face, right now”, materialism-personified. if the sun sign is a matter of will than it’s much more nuanced and context-specific what the sun sign actually means for a person. more than any orbit in astrology, the sun sign is PERSONAL, person-specific.
my hunch is that in the day (time and place) when much of what is taken as astrological 101 status quo was written, options were severely restricted, by our standards. maybe 9 out of 10 Taurus Suns in that time and place were banker, country farming, etc. etc. (insert Taurus sun sign cliché). the problem is pop astrology lacks nuance, room for subtle distinctions, and is quite possible archaic. so unsurprisingly people with a natural curiousity in themselves and their place within the world or cosmos are turned off by astrology… until they see what a real astrologer can do – hopefully.
